The Violin, Directed by Edson Sithole (Canada) - Fatimah and Raheem are an immigrant couple whose marriage is deteriorating. The stress of uprooting their family from Africa and starting anew in Canada has taken its toll. But at the center of The Violin is the relationship between Fatimah and their son Omar. Fatimah had to give up her dream of becoming a violinist in order to take care of the family and now she lives vicariously through her son. He is not keen on the violin and would rather be skateboarding like most Canadian kids his age. When Omar finally comes clean with his mother not only does this shatter her dream it puts more strain on her relationship with Omar's father.
